About Us

The UofL 3D Printing Business Incubator is home to the Mechanical Engineering Capstone Design Program and is directed by Prof. Sundar V. Atre, Endowed Chair of Manufacturing & Materials at the University of Louisville. Prof. Kunal Kate, Dr. Swati Vunnam and Dr. Samuel Dilip are faculty mentors. Here startup teams of 3-4 students will design a product, prototype it using 3D printing and identify a scalable pathway for a viable business in order to compete for a future round of financing. The 3D Printing Business Incubator is a part of the Digital Manufacturing and Design Program involving a consortium of companies that will participate in the growth of 3D printing in terms of R&D, workforce development and products. Our  startup teams are housed at the Materials Innovation Guild and enjoy a significant competitive advantage as a result of the University of Louisville's world-class 3D Printing ecosystem consisting of:

Institute for Product Realization (industry partnership and commercialization)
Materials Innovation Guild (materials development and product design)
Conn Center (materials characterization)
Rapid Prototyping Center (process development and service)
School of Dentistry (medical applications)
National Science Foundation I-Corps (entrepreneurship support)
First Build (microfactory)
